EXTRA CREDIT

End of Year Poetry Project

Yep, like last year. It's a MS English annual tradition.
  1. Read at least 10 poems. You can use the links below, books in the classroom, or other sources you have. Feel free to read 40 poems or more! Keep reading until you....
  2. Find one that you love! Make sure that it is 14 lines long or more and that it is substantial. In other words, ask yourself if the poem is worth the time memorizing it and if you will enjoy knowing this poem when you're an adult. Be sure to choose one that you do not already know by heart--that would not be fair.
  3. When you have accomplished steps 1 and 2, please sign up the poem with me. I will approve your choice or send you off to find a more substantial poem.
  4. Memorize it! Pay close attention to the punctuation, the meaning and the tone of the poem, as you prepare to recite it.
  5. Recite it! Due date: 6/6. Or before!
  6. Meanwhile, if you are so inclined, start working on your EXTRA CREDIT animated version of this poem. See below ("Animated Poetry") for separate directions.
Can you work on this project with a partner? Sure, as long as you each have 14 lines or more.
Can you be creative (sing, play an instrument, dress up)? Sure!

Animated Poetry--EXTRA CREDIT

Here is a chance to bring your poem to life, to help express the meaning of the poem through digital tools.

Here are the parameters:
  1. Create your animated version of your poem in Powerpoint. (Powerpoint is much more versatile and powerful than most people realize.)
  2. Create at least 10 slides
  3. Record your voice reading (or reciting) the poem. (You will have to record it in chunks, creating a sound file that corresponds to each slide.) Steps: Insert, Movies and Sounds, Record Sounds.
  4. Use a combination of words and images.
  5. Work to have the images and animations match/enhance the meaning of the poem.
  6. When your slide show is finished, turn it into a movie. Save As, Powerpoint Movie (Quicktime Format)
  7. Import the movie to this wiki. Press the File button on the wiki (while you're in edit mode), upload your movie...
